Vellamo 2021 – Webinar on International Collaboration, Receiving and Offering Assistance

Rajupaja Studio

6.5.2021 - 10:00 (UTC+3)

VELLAMO 2021 consists of three separate training sessions in Southwest Finland – the OIL SPILL training session, the Host Nation Support training session and the exercise on oil spill response Saaristomeri 2021 (also known as SAAME2021). Themes involved in all three training sessions include rescue activities and international collaboration during a large-scale oil spill.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, OIL SPILL and Host Nation Support training sessions are carried out as tabletop exercises only. Activities to be practised include requesting international assistance, activating and coordinating the National Host Nation Support mechanism and coordinating the voluntary actors of the OIL SPILL exercise. The training session of SAAME 2021 is carried out as a joint effort between Southwest Finland Emergency Services personnel and volunteer fire brigades. The scale of the exercise will be reduced.

During environmental damages and major accidents, assistance can be requested and received e.g. from international operators, the national voluntary sector or experts in the private sector. These themes are covered in the Vellamo exercise and webinar.
